Info and Services for Graduate Students

Library Services - Quick Overview

  • Meet YOUR Librarian

Each RIT college has a Reference Librarian to serve as liaison. The Reference Librarian for your college is your first contact for consultation and assistance related to your research needs. Schedule research help.

  • Graduate Support Services for Writing, Theses and Dissertations

The Publishing and Scholarship Support Center (PSSC) provides writing assistance, copyright consultations, citation assistance and EndNote Web support for graduate students. Many thesis and dissertation services are also available. You can upload your thesis or dissertation to Turnitin to check for plagiarism, have your thesis or dissertation bound and submit an electronic copy to the RIT Digital Media Library and the Proquest/UMI database. Access a complete guide to graduate support services offered by the PSSC.

  • Dissertation and Thesis Calculator
Access an online project management tool specifically designed for graduate students to assist with the thesis or dissertation process. Establish a timeframe for the completion of your thesis or dissertation.
  • Special Info for Graduate Assistants
    • Checking out books from the RIT Library: to check out books for your professor, make previous arrangements to have authorization to borrow materials under his or her name. This can be accomplished by submitting the Graduate Assistant Borrowing Authorization form or a letter from your professor to the Circulation Desk.
    • Borrowing materials from other libraries: graduate students placing Interlibrary Loan (ILL) requests for faculty through IDS Express should read the Interlibrary Loan Proxy account information.

Library Resources - Quick Overview

  • Research Databases

There are more than 180 databases licensed by RIT Libraries to support faculty and student research. You will find scholarly information in all disciplines and many resources designed for graduate level research such as Dissertations and Theses and Web of Knowledge. In many cases you will be linked directly to the material in your research area in electronic format. These databases give you access to information that is not available freely on the Internet. Look for the MORE! button to link to even more fulltext.

Trouble accessing databases? If you have finished your coursework and are working on your thesis or dissertation, you may no longer be reigstered as an RIT student. Check with your department to see if there is an option to register for your thesis or dissertation so you have continued access to research databases.

  • Borrowing RIT Library Material

There are no limits on the number of items that may be checked out. The books from the general collection have a 10 week due date and are renewable if not needed by another. The library also has leisure material for your use: best-selling books, videos and DVD's. ALL borrowers pay late recall fines, billed book fees and lost book costs.
